Zulum Releases N700m Leave Grants For Local Govt Workers
The sum of Seven Hundred Million Naira (N700m) has been granted by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for the payment of leave benefits for 2022 to local government employees throughout Borno State.
Eko Hot Blog reports Sugun Mai Mele, the commissioner for local governments and Emirates affairs, made the announcement on Monday in Maiduguri while meeting with reporters in the conference room of the Musa Usman secretariat.

The Commissioner stated that the 27 local government regions’ accounts had already been funded.
Mele recalled Zulum’s warning that the funds should never be used for anything other than paying the leave awards.
He noted that the ministry will take stringent action against officials of any local government area who fail to pay the leave grants by using the funds for something else.
The Commissioner said that the ministry had already directed the LGAs in a circular to pay digitally and avoid table payments.
Aside from the leave grants, Sugun Mai Mele added that l, after ongoing computations and ground works are completed, payment for the outstanding gratuities for 2022 will also be announced very soon.
The commissioner recalled that since the assumption of office, Zulum has made severe and sustained efforts toward re-establishing civil authority in the local government areas.
He said Governor Zulum sustained the constant payment of state and local governments’ staff salaries and pensions at the end of every month.

Sugun Mai Mele conveyed Zulum’s gratitude to the leadership of the Nigerian Union of local government employees (NULGE), the Nigerian Union of Teachers, and all other unions for their support for his administration.
He solicited workers’ continued support to the Zulum’s administration as they have always done.
