1. FG decries rising inflation, moves to stop trend
The Federal Government has decried the growing inflation in Nigeria, saying mechanisms have been activated to check the trend.
According to the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has directed the National Food Security Council to brainstorm and make recommendations on the way forward.
Ahmed made this known at the House of Representatives in Abuja on Wednesday while appearing before the committee on finance to defend the budget proposed by the ministry in the 2023 Appropriation Bill.
2. Ogun police arrest four suspected robbers, two escape
Officers of the Ogun state Police Command have arrested four suspected armed robbers who allegedly specialise in snatching motorcycles from owners at gun point.
The suspects, Muhammad Adamu, 20, Okacha Alidu, 22, Yusuf Mohammed, 28, and Muniru Sunmaila, 20, were arrested following a distress call received at Ajuwon Police Divisional Headquarters.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this on Wednesday.
Oyeyemi said the police were hinted at about 3am on Monday, the suspects had attacked one Sunday Doile at Onibudo area of Akute and snatched his Bajaj motorcycle at gun point.
3. C’River to punish PHCs charging N10,000 for delivery
The Cross River State Government has vowed to punish officials in charge of Primary Healthcare facilities in the state that ask pregnant women to pay N10,000 for delivery.
The threat was issued on Wednesday by the Director General of the Cross River Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Janet Ekpenyong, at the integrated meeting with PHC Ward Focal Persons and the state Basic Healthcare Provision Scheme in Calabar.
According to her, there have been complaints that some PHCs in the state charge pregnant women and other patients as much as N10,000.
“The PHCs are supposed to charge just N3,000 to pregnant women who come for delivery to purchase consumables and this is only when they don’t come with their own consumables as stated on the list initially given to them
“We are looking at ways to encourage pregnant women to patronise health facilities instead of traditional birth attendants.
“While we totally condemn these actions, we have set up a team headed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health to ensure that culpable PHCs and personnel are adequately penalised,” she said.
According to Ekpenyong, out of the 196 PHC facilities in the state, over 130 had been accredited for the Cross River Basic Healthcare Insurance Scheme.
The Director-General, Cross River Basic Healthcare Provision Scheme, Mr. Godwin Iyala, emphasised the importance of the scheme to the universal healthcare provision, adding that the PHCs were selected to achieve universal health coverage because of their closeness to the people.

4. Osun appoints new Akinrun, nine other monarchs
Osun State Government, on Wednesday, announced the appointment of Prince Yinusa Olalekan Akadiri of Oba-Ara Ruling House as the new Akinrun of Ikirun, in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the State.
His emergence followed majority votes in his favour at a meeting of Ikirun kingmakers held on November 19, 2021, where Akadiri polled six out of seven votes, beating 17 other candidates in the process.
The Akinrun stool became vacant on February 8, 2021, following the demise of Oba Rauf Adedeji who mounted the royal stool in 1991.
5. ASUU strike: JAMB has not cancelled any admission – Registrar
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, on Wednesday said that the board has not cancelled or deferred any admission to Universities, Polytechnics, or Colleges of Education as a result of the prolonged strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.
The Registrar/Chief Executive of JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede disclosed this shortly before he declared open the National Executive Council, NEC, meeting of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU, in Abuja.
He said that the onus of admitting students lies in the individual universities’ administrations, noting that about three different sessions are being run by various universities.
6. Lagos set to demolish Agege buildings in viral flood video
Lagos State Government has commenced moves to demolish all buildings in a viral flood video on social media at Oko Oba, Agege area of the state, saying all the affected structures are on a drainage channel alignment.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tunji Bello, however,
disclaimed the narrative on the content of the viral flood video.
Reacting to the misleading video, on Wednesday, Bello, maintained that contrary to impressions being created, the area which is behind Abimbola Awoniyi Estate by Agric Road, Oko Oba, Agege has always experienced flash flood.

7. It will take 30 years to control flood, says FG
The Federal Government, on Wednesday, said it would take about 30 years of consistent investment to be able to control the current flood menace in different parts of the country.
Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman Adamu, disclosed this after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
The Minister, who said he made a presentation to the Council jointly with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, also noted that this sort of disaster cannot be prevented but the government can only minimise its impact.
8. FG insists on Air Nigeria with Ethiopian Airline as core investor
The Federal Government has insisted it would go ahead with Nigeria Air Limited in partnership with Ethiopian Airlines as the major investor with 49 percent shares.
The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, made this assertion during an interactive session with Senate Committee on Aviation, heads of aviation agencies and the Airlines Operators of Nigeria.
He wondered why members of the AON were vehemently opposed to the idea of a national carrier when they were adequately carried along when the plan started seven years ago.
The Minister insisted that the essence of having a national carrier was to improve services and make the industry affordable to all Nigerians.

9. Declare state of emergency on flood-ravaged states – Obi tells FG
The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has called on the federal government to declare state of emergency on all states recently affected by flood.
Obi made the call on Wednesday in Taraba State where he went to sympathize with the victims of the flood disaster.
Obi, who visited the various locations affected by the disaster in Ibi Local Government Council of the state, was also observed to have beckoned at the government to adopt the global best practice that would help in desilting all its waters to avert a recurrence of floods.
Piqued by the havoc wreaked by floods across the nation, he said, “We are calling on the government to come with interventions, declare all the affected states a disaster area.”
10. Dele Momodu after Atiku’s money, will praise Tinubu after 2023 election – Keyamo
Minister of State for Labour, Festus Keyamo said Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Dele Momodu was only after Atiku Abubakar’s money.
Festus Keyamo is the spokesperson of the Bola Tinubu-Kashim Shettima Presidential Campaign Council (PCC).
Momodu, who holds the same position in the PDP campaign, had called Keyamo a nuisance and a figurehead in the Buhari administration.
In reply, Keyamo called the publisher a miserable fellow that overrated himself but crashed like a wingless bird from a futile presidential ambition.
