Recall that the 82-year-old had been hospitalised since being attacked in the early morning of October 28.
He underwent surgery last week to repair a skull fracture and “serious injuries to his right arm and hands,” and is expected to make a full recovery, according to the speaker’s office
Pelosi’s attacker, David Wayne DePape, faces several state and federal charges related to the attack, including attempted murder, attempted kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon.
San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said the 42-year-old was searching for the House speaker when he entered the home in the tony Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco. He was said to be shouting “Where is Nancy?”, whom she wanted to abduct.
The suspect entered the home by breaking a glass door with a hammer, according to investigators.
Pelosi called 911 by asking to use the bathroom, which is where his phone was charging, police said.
When officers arrived, they saw the men wrestling for the hammer. They told both men to drop the hammer before DePape “immediately pulled the hammer away” and “violently attacked” Pelosi with it, San Francisco Police Chief William Scott said.
In a statement on Thursday, the speaker’s office said Pelosi is at home and “remains under doctors’ care as he continues to progress on a long recovery process.”
“The Pelosi family is thankful for the beautiful outpouring of love, support and prayers from around the world,” the statement said.
