1. Why I snub debates – Tinubu
The presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has said those inviting him for debates are only trying to use him to make money because he’s a marketable individual.
The former governor of Lagos State said this at Chatham House in London on Monday, barely 24 hours after he snubbed a town hall meeting attended by three other candidates in the 2023 presidential race.
Fielding a question from the audience on why he snubbed debates, Tinubu said, “I see myself as a marketable individual. You want to use me to make money and I’m saying no.”
On controversies surrounding his age, school and time in the private sector, he said, “At the time of birth, I was dated March 29, 1952, in the family record. Then, I don’t think I had decided to be President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, not even that I would go into politics.
2. NUC accredits Nursing degree for Ajayi Crowther University
The National Universities Commission has accredited Nursing degree programme for Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, to fully run the programme, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Timothy Adebayo, announced on Monday.
Adebayo made this announcement at a press conference held in the institution, ahead of the 14th convocation ceremony of ACU for the 2021/2022 academic session.
The vice chancellor, who used the occasion to announce that about 41 undergraduate persons bagged First Class Honours while 628 bagged Second Class Honours (Upper Division), however, expressed optimism that the institution would own its teaching hospital soon.
3. Ekiti: Cultist who raped virgin to die by hanging
An Ekiti State High Court, Ado Ekiti Division has sentenced a 24-year-old man, Segun Iwaetan, to death by hanging for membership of secret cult.
The court also sentenced the defendant to life imprisonment for raping a 20-year-old neighbour and student of Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti while armed with two guns.
The defendant was tried on a seven-count charge bordering on rape, unlawful possession of firearms and membership of secret cult among other offences.
According to the charge sheet, “Segun Iwaetan and Atila Iwaetan (now at large) on January 16, 2021 at Federal Polytechnic Road, Ado Ekiti, did conspire to commit burglary and stealing, break into the shop of Olayemi Oyerinde, received stolen properties such as 50 jean trousers, 15 polo shirts, 30 pairs of leather slippers among others, worth over N1.8million.
“Also on February 5, 2021, the defendant raped a 20-year-old Federal Polytechnic student at Odo Ado Street, Ado Ekiti while unlawfully in possession of two guns, he was on February 10, 2021 found to be a member of the Eiye confraternity secret cult,” it stated.

4. Abuja-Kaduna train resumes operations with low subscribers
THE Federal Government, FG, has announced the commencement of the Abuja-Kaduna train services starting today, 5th December, 2022.
This is coming 251 days after when the Federal Government announced suspension of the Abuja-Kaduna train following the Boko Haram terrorists attack on moving passenger train in Kaduna on March 28, 2022.
The insurgents had blown up the rail track and bombed the moving train, killing some and abducting more than 60 passengers. The unprecedented attack attracted international and national outrage.
5. 2023 census: We’ve carried out demarcation in 773 LGAs – NPC Boss
The Chairman, National Population Commission, NPC, Nasir Isa Kwarra on Monday said the commission has carried out demarcation of 773 local government areas in the country.
Kwarra stated this when he led a delegation from the commission to pay a courtesy visit to the Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero in Kano.
The NPC boss said despite security challenges in some areas in the country, preparations on the forthcoming census have reached advanced level across the nation as it is left with one local government area for demarcation and work is in progress.
According to him, “As you are aware, the National Population Commission has intensified preparation for the 2023 population and housing census, despite security challenges in some parts of the country, the census preparatory activities have gone far to satisfactory level across the federation.
6. Budget Padding: Senate clears Finance Minister
THE Senate has on Monday cleared the Minister of Finance , Budget and National Planning , Mrs Zainab Ahmed of alleged insertions in budgetary provisions of some Ministries , Departments and Agencies ( MDAs).
The Senate gave the Finance Minister a clean bill of health on alleged series of puddings in the proposed N20.51trillion 2023 budget when she appeared before the Senator Barau Jibrin, APC, Kano North led Senate Committee on Appropriations to make clarifications on the issues
Satisfied by her submission , the Chairman of the Committee on Appropriations, Senator Jibrin said that the clarifications presented by the Minister were well understood by all the committee members and thereafter hailed her for ensuring transparency with capturing of such loans or grants in the budget .

7. Adeleke visits Osun Assembly, begs for support
Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke has visited the All Progressives Congress(APC)-controlled House of Assembly on Monday to solicit for their support.
Adeleke visited the lawmakers at the plenary of the House of Assembly to extend the hand of friendship to them.
Addressing the lawmakers, he said since the government is a continuum, his administration will not abandon any of the projects embarked by the previous administration of the State.
8. G5 yet to take stand on 2023 presidency – Makinde
Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde has said all hope is not lost in the bid to ensure harmony within the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) ahead of the forthcoming general election.
Speaking on who the G5- Governors would support for the Presidential election, Makinde expressed hope that some form of alignment will be reached before the election.
The Governor spoke while fielding questions from reporters shortly after signing the Bill on Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo Law 2022.
Speaking with reporters in a chat, the Governor said his colleagues in the G5, including Nyesome Wike (Rivers), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) are still in talks with the party leadership, adding that some demands have also been placed before them.

9. Pension assets gained N164bn in October – PENCOM
The assets under the Contributory Pension Scheme surged by N164bn in October compared to almost N2bn loss recorded in the previous month.
DAILY POST learnt this from the National Pension Commission’s latest monthly report tagged, “Unaudited Report on Pension Funds Industry Portfolio for the Period ended 31 October 2022.”
The report stated that the commission’s assets rose to N14.59 trillion in October from N14.424 trillion and N14.426 trillion as of August 2022.
10. ESN not interested in 2023 elections – IPOB responds to attacks on INEC offices
The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has distanced itself and the Eastern Security Network, ESN, from attacks on the offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, stressing that it can only ask people to boycott elections.
Emma Powerful, IPOB’s spokesman, accused the Nigerian Police Force of blackmailing its members over the recent attacks on INEC offices.
The Imo State Police Command had linked the attack on INEC office in Orlu West Local Government Area of the state to ESN members.
Mike Abattam, the Command’s spokesperson said ESN members attacked INEC office using Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs.
