Diaz has appeared for Liverpool 12 times this season but has been sidelined since sustaining an injury during his team’s Premier League defeat to Arsenal in October.
Diaz was deemed fit enough to travel to Dubai with Liverpool ahead of the return of domestic football.
The Reds are due to play Lyon and AC Milan in the Middle East before they take on Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in the Carabao Cup before Christmas.
But, according to Win Sports TV, the winger now needs to go under the knife to deal with lateral collateral ligament damage in his knee.
“It’s all good [fitness-wise] with the boys who are here,” Klopp said as he gave an update on his squad from Dubai. “What’s not good is we have to see with Lucho.
He felt something and we need to have further assessment there. But apart from that they all look really, really good.”
Diaz will be hoping he can return to action sooner rather than later, with Liverpool struggling during the early stages of the season.
And the player will be aiming to help the Reds rediscover their form of last season when he eventually takes to the pitch again.
“I’m really, really happy to be sharing a training ground and the pitch with them,” Diaz said of his team-mates after he joined the club.
