The couple made the plea on Wednesday, December 21, at the 2022 edition of the Annual Kiddies Funfair held at the Council secretariat of Eredo LCDA, Epe Division, Lagos State.
Mrs. Ismail implored the kids to pursue noble academic excellence. She also decried the trend of deadly acts of social vices perpetrated in the area. She, therefore, appealed for abstinence.
The Eredo LCDA chairman’s wife also urged parents to take full responsibility for the upbringing of their children.
“Let me remind you that despite the efforts of the government to provide qualitative education for the teeming population of our youths, it is disheartening to note the alarming rate of gruesome killings among the youths who are potential leaders of our great country, Nigeria,” she said.
“Your parents love you, our country, Nigeria, needs you. Do not kill your future dreams. Say no to cultism, rape, hooliganism, and other social vices that could destroy your bright future.
“On this note, I want to appeal to our parents to take full responsibility for the upbringing of their children and wards to eradicate the social ills in our society. To our religious leaders, I equally appeal to you to preach love, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence in all religious centers for a better Nigeria.”
Mrs. Ismail also described the celebration as an avenue for children from across the Eredo LCDA communities to feel the pulse of the government at the grassroots.
She further reiterated the commitment of the Monsuru Ismail-led administration to the welfare of widows and the elderly, noting that the sum of N10,000 had been earmarked for 100 widows across wards in the LCDA.
Earlier, Hon. Ismail underscored the significance of hosting the kiddie’s funfair which he said had gone beyond mere fun with the inclusion of programmes such as quizzes, spelling bees, exhibitions, variety shows, and many other cognitive and psychomotor-inclined ones.
“I affirm that kiddie’s funfair is an avenue for your children to socialize with other children. At funfairs, children get to participate in a variety of activities. They can act in children’s play, participate in puppet shows, or dance in variety program,” he said.
“Unfortunately, most parents do not consider these events important for their children and prefer them to stay at home. They do not realize that these events can have positive impacts on their children and can help them to be good ambassadors of their various homes and effective member of the society.
“Happy to mention that children are young and beautiful creatures with their innocent smiles and carefree spirits, they steal the hearts of many. Little wonder that our administration in Eredo LCDA sets aside this day to celebrate our loving kids so that since the funfair would provide a wide area for expressing their talents.”
Eko Hot Blog reports that LG Primary School, Noforija emerged as the champion of the quiz competition while RCM Primary School, Odomola and RCM Primary School, Ajegbende clinched the 2nd and 3rd position prizes, respectively.
Meanwhile, students of Scholars International Secondary School, Imokun, and Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) PDG Parish thrilled the audience with choreographic dance performances.
While the funfair witnessed the presentation of N10,000 cash gifts to 100 widows and aging people, a lucky parent who joined in the celebration smiled home with a brand-new grinding machine in the raffle draw.
The event was well attended by the Executive and Legislative arm, the Management team of the LCDA, political leaders, women groups, widows, representatives of traditional rulers, and school children.
