1. Obasanjo, Clark’s Obi endorsement road to Tinubu’s victory – Keyamo
The spokesperson for the All-Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Festus Keyamo, SAN, has said that the recent endorsement of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, by the former president Olusegun Obasanjo and Edwin Clark has only cleared the path for his party’s victory in the forthcoming elections.
He said that the various endorsement only spells doom for the People’s Democratic party as the various component that gave the party second position votes in the 2019 elections are pulling out.
Keyamo, who is also the Minister of State for Labour and Employment gave these projections on Tuesday when he appeared on Channels Tv Politics Today.
He said, “I think we can say confidently today that the PDP campaign has collapsed. The PDP as a party has also collapsed. The various components of the party in 2019 are the ones pulling out of that coalition. Nothing has affected APC.
2. Okada rider trapped as tanker falls in Lagos
A yet-to-be-identified Okada rider has been trapped under a 33,000-litre tanker after the vehicle fell on its side on the Apapa Oshodi Expressway, in the Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos.
The Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
Adeseye noted that the tanker had lost control while in motion, causing it to fall on its side and spilling its content, adding that efforts to rescue the trapped man were ongoing.
She said, “The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Agency, is currently salvaging a 33,000-litre tanker conveying petrol outbound Mile 2 which, reportedly, accidentally lost control while in motion and fell on its side, thereby spilling its contents at Alaba Express Bus Stop, Apapa Oshodi Expressway, Amuwo Odofin, Lagos.
“The incident is being mitigated by the Ajegunle Fire Crew of the Agency and has it under control with no palpable cause for alarm.
3. US says COVID-19 tests for China travellers scientific
The United States said Tuesday that the requirement of COVID-19 tests for travellers from China was based on science and due to Beijing’s lack of transparency on surging cases.
China earlier Tuesday denounced measures taken by a number of countries on its travellers as “unacceptable,” two days before air passengers, two years and older, would be required to show a negative COVID test to enter the US.
“This is an approach that is based solely and exclusively on science,” State Department spokesman Ned Price told reporters when asked about the statement by his Chinese counterpart.
The measures have “very public health concerns that undergird them” due to “the surge of COVID-19 cases in the PRC and the lack of adequate and transparent epidemiological and viral genomic sequence data being reported from the PRC,” Price said, referring to the People’s Republic of China.

4. Cholera Outbreak: Umahi visits patients, pledges to provide 10 boreholes, modern toilets
The Ebonyi Governor, David Umahi, said he would provide 10 boreholes for the people of Afikpo North local government area of the state as a way of tackling water scarcity in the area.
Umahi said he would also construct modern toilets in the area within the next two weeks.
The Governor made the promise during his visit to patients of cholera at Amata Akpoha Hospital on Tuesday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the state had recorded cholera outbreak and no fewer than nine persons have been reported dead in the affected community.
5. Budget: Poverty, unemployment, rising debt profile, others – NECA
The Nigeria Employers Consultative Association, NECA, has expressed concerns over the 2023 national budget, saying poverty, unemployment, rising debt profile, and others are not likely to change as President Mohammad Buhari, signs N9.73 trillion estimated appropriation to law today.
The umbrella body for employers and voice of business in the country said it was imperative for the government to effectively mobilize and strengthen all available revenue sources to avoid financing the budget through high-interest-rate borrowing, thus increasing future debt service.
Speaking with Vanguard on the 2023 Budget and its implication for business, the Director-General of NECA, Wale-Smatt Oyerinde, said: “The “Budget of Fiscal Sustainability and Transition” as it is called, was designed to achieve, among other things, the strategic objectives of the National Development Plan 2021–2025.
6. 2023: Prepare for your defeat, APC tells Makinde, PDP
The All Progressives Congress (APC) says no amount of fake news can save Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from defeat in the 2023 general elections.
Its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, said in a statement on Tuesday in Ibadan, that PDP was allegedly behind the spread of fake news purportedly issued by one Alhaji Bashir Adeola, a Chieftain of APC in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that APC was reacting to a news report which claimed that Adeola, a spoke in condemnation of his party to favour PDP.
The APC spokesperson dismissed the said news as fake, saying that the name, Bashir Adeola, was a fictitious name.

7. Truck drivers protest against police extortion on East-West road
Hundreds of travellers returning from the yuletide holidays were stranded on the East-West highway on Tuesday morning following a fracas between truckers and policemen.
It was over an alleged ‘checkpoint tax’ hike by law enforcement officers.
The incident occurred at Kalama Junction, close to the Kaiama Bridge over River Niger, around 6:45 am.
8. Ex-ambassador to South Africa resigns from APC
Former Ambassador to South Africa, Musa Ibeto, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger State.
In his letter of resignation presented to the Chairman of APC in Ibelu Central Ward in Magama on Tuesday, Ibeto cited a lack of unity of purpose among members.
Ibeto, who is a member of the Presidential Campaign Committee and the Assistant Secretary of the Northcentral Directorate of Mobilisation, accused members of non-commitment.

9. Abducted son of slain ex-CBN staff found dead in Ogun river
The lifeless body of the abducted son of the slain staff of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Kehinde Fatinoye, has been found in Ogun river.
DAILY POST reported on Sunday that Fatinoye and his wife were murdered by yet-to-be-identified persons in their Ibara GRA residence in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
Their son was dragged away by the assassins alongside a domestic staff and threw them into the river along the Adigbe-Obada road.
While the domestic staff reportedly escaped from the water, the son, Oreoluwa, was found dead, with his hands and legs tied.
10. US agencies alert banks of crypto-asset risks
Federal bank regulatory agencies in the United States on Tuesday raised the alarm of “key risks” for banks associated with crypto-assets and the crypto-asset sector.
The Federal Reserve System, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and Office of the Comptroller of the Currency issued a joint statement.
The alert describes the “several risks”, as demonstrated by the significant volatility and vulnerabilities over the past year.
The agencies said they would take a cautious approach related to current and proposed crypto-asset-related activities and exposures at banking organizations.
