1. Kanu needed for South-East elections to hold – Soludo
The Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has reiterated his call for the unconditional release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, who has been in detention since 2021.
Soludo pointed out that Kanu’s release would play a key role in the peaceful build-up to the forthcoming general election starting next month.
The governor stated these on Thursday when he appeared on a Channels TV programme, ‘Politics Today’, titled, ‘One-on-One with Governor Soludo’.
He said he would send a formal letter to the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mallam Abubakar Malami (SAN), in a few days, to make his request official.
2. Atiku will win South-West – Adeleke
Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke, has said Atiku/Okowa ticket would win South-West in the 2023 presidential polls.
A statement by the spokesperson to the governor, Olawale Rasheed, obtained in Osogbo on Thursday noted that Adeleke stated this at the presidential rallies held in Abeokuta and Ibadan.
Adeleke noted that Atiku is a national candidate who has spent his years of professional and business life in the South-West, adding, “Yoruba people are determined to enthrone good governance as typified by the Atiku/Okowa candidacy.
“I have seen the high level of turnout and goodwill the PDP enjoys across Yorubaland. This was demonstrated in Osun State when I was massively voted into office.
3. Burna Boy, Rema, Asake top Soundcity Awards nominee list
Popular Afrobeat singer, Damini Ogulu, aka Burna Boy, is at the top of the nomination list for this year’s edition of the ‘Tingo Mobile-Soundcity Music Awards Festival’, with a total of eight nominations in seven categories, including ‘African Artiste of the Year’, ‘Listener’s Choice’, ‘Viewer’s Choice’, ‘Digital Artiste of the Year’, ‘Best Male MVP’, and ‘Song of the Year’. The self-acclaimed African Giant got two nominations in the ‘Best Collaboration Category’— Black Sheriff featuring Burna Boy (Second Sermon), and Asake featuring Burna Boy (Sungba remix).
Following in second place is singer Divine Ikubor, aka Rema, who tied with Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, with seven nominations.
Other nominees include Raphael Attachie, aka Camidoh; Stanley Didia, aka Omah Lay; Daniel Anidugbe, aka Kizz Daniel; Ghanaian singer, Mohammed Frimpong aka Black Sherif; with five nominations each.
South African rapper, Costa Tsobanoglou, aka Costa Titch; Dennis Dwamena, aka Kidi; and Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, aka Ayra Starr; were nominated in four categories.

4. Fuel queues: Lagos moves to regulate activities of petroleum marketers
Lagos State Government has begun the move to regulate the activities of major and independent petroleum marketers operating along major roads and traffic-prone areas within the state.
The measure has become necessary in view of the lingering fuel scarcity across the country, which has continued to affect the free flow of traffic in the state.
Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Frederic Oladeinde, in a statement, stressed that “the move becomes imperative in order to check indiscriminate activities of motorists queuing up to buy petroleum products who oftentimes, park carelessly on the roads and bridges, therefore impeding the free flow of traffic.”
5. Re-election: Sanwo-Olu promises salary increase for street sweepers
The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has promised to increase the salary and allowances of the staff of the Lagos State Waste Managers, particularly the street sweepers soon.
Sanwo-Olu stressed that his administration remains committed to the welfare of those that are ensuring a cleaner city and secure environment.
The governor gave the assurance, yesterday, at the Mega Rally, organised by Private Sector Participants, under the umbrella of the Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria, AWAMN, to express support for the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu and re-election bid of Governor Sanwo-Olu.
“My administration is determined to enhance the welfare of Street Sweepers, PSP Staff among others in recognition of their dedication to a clean and healthy environment in Lagos State, “ Sanwo-Olu stated.
6. Buhari aiding plans to rig 2023 elections — Ogbonnia alleges
Former Presidential Aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr SKC Ogbonnia has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of assisting the gradual rigging of this year’s general elections.
Supporting his claim against Buhari, Ogbonnia cited various vote-buying cases, which he alleged are largely perpetuated by the President’s ruling party, the APC, particularly by its Presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.
In a statement he made available to our correspondent, on Thursday, Ogbonnia said the processes leading to (and within) elections were even foremost important, but that President Buhari has been sitting idly by while there are widespread voter intimidation and massive schemes for vote buying around the country, all in favour of the ruling APC.
