Tinubu Didn’t Accuse Buhari Of Engineering New Naira Notes, Fuel Scarcity – APC
-
Tinubu launched an attack against supposed saboteurs of his presidential bid on Wednesday.
-
The APC presidential candidate said the scarcity of new naira notes and fuel across Nigeria is aimed at affecting his chances in the February 25 election.
-
The attack generated speculations that Tinubu was attacking Buhari and those in his government of trying to sabotage his presidential campaign.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the presidential campaign council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said its candidate, Bola Tinubu, did not blame President Muhammadu Buhari for the scarcity of petrol and new naira notes.

Recall that Tinubu suggested at a rally in Ogun state on Wednesday that the scarcity of petrol and the naira redesign were engineered to hurt his chances of securing victory in the presidential election
“Let fuel be expensive, only they know where they keep it. Keep petrol, keep the naira, and we will vote and be elected. You may change the ink of naira notes. What you expect will not happen,” the former Lagos governor said.
“They said petrol will rise to N200/litre and N500/litre, let your mind be at rest. They don’t want these forthcoming elections to hold. They want to scatter it but that won’t be possible.”
Tinubu’s accusations prompted a reaction from the PDP presidential campaign council.
Phrank Shaibu, an aide to Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said Tinubu was using the problems as an excuse for his imminent defeat.
Reacting in a statement on Thursday, the APC campaign council’s director of media, Bayo Onanuga, said Tinubu was only drawing Buhari’s attention to saboteurs “possibly working in cahoots with the PDP.”
The campaign spokesman stated that the attempt to create a conflict between the APC presidential candidate and the president will fail.
“For a presidential candidate who cares about the suffering of our people, he has a duty to warn the government that its efforts to make life better for Nigerians are being sabotaged on several fronts,” Onanuga said.
“How does an advisory genuinely made by Asiwaju Tinubu to protect and create goodwill for the government of his party become an attack? It can only be so in the jaundiced view of the PDP.
“It is in this light we found amusing the directionless Atiku campaign’s bagful of mischief in their hurriedly put-together press statement meant to gain shameful mileage from the suffering of Nigerians.
“PDP and Atiku should remember not to get high on their own smoke. No political blackmail and an attempt to create a conflict between Tinubu and his long-term ally, President Muhammadu Buhari can succeed.
“The Atiku rudderless campaign, always seeking cheap shots and easy ways has again woefully attempted to make a mountain out of a molehill from the comments made by Asiwaju Tinubu in Abeokuta.

“As a patriotic and compassionate leader, Asiwaju Tinubu will not stomach seeing ordinary Nigerians being made to face excessive difficulties over mundane issues due to activities of petrol and currency hoarders.”
