EKO HOT BLOG reports on a historic moment for the National Basketball Association (NBA), LeBron James surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s long-standing record of 38,387 points on Tuesday to become the league’s all-time leading scorer.
Playing for the Los Angeles Lakers in his 20th season in the NBA, James clinched the record with a 21-foot shot against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the third quarter, earning himself 38,388 points. The arena erupted in celebration, with Abdul-Jabbar himself among the first to offer his congratulations to the four-time NBA champion.
James entered Tuesday’s game needing only 36 points to surpass Abdul-Jabbar’s record, following a dominant season in which he averaged 30 points per game.

Despite a slow start, missing his first two attempts, James found his rhythm in the second quarter with a run of 12 consecutive points before being substituted, 16 points short of the record. He hit the record-breaking shot with a long-range attempt in the third quarter.
After the game, James expressed his gratitude to those who have supported him throughout his 20-year career.
“To be in the presence of a legend like Kareem means so much to me,” he said. “I wouldn’t be here without the help, passion, and sacrifices of so many people. I think this is one of the greatest records in sports, up there with the home run record in baseball.”
