JUST IN: Apapa Labour Party Faction Invites Peter Obi
  • Labour Party presidential candidate opens up on not paying the Oba of Lagos a visit.

  • The politician recently paid Lagos State a visit as he continues his national tour of Nigeria ahead of the February polls.

  • According to the politician, the Oba of Lagos, Oba Akiolu, was unavailable to receive him, hence his absence at the Oba of Lagos’ palace.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has clarified that he did not visit the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, during his recent campaign tour to the city because the monarch was not readily available. Obi made this known on Monday during an interview with Channels Television.

Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State, dismissed claims that he intentionally snubbed the traditional ruler, insisting that the reports were untrue. He revealed that his team had attempted to pay a visit to the Oba but were informed that he was not available, and they were advised to apply for another date.

“The truth is that when we arrived, we wanted to do what we used to do — arrive, drive to the palace, and see the Oba. And we were told that he is not readily available and that we should apply and come at some other date. And that we intend to do because he remains a highly respected father to me and to the entire nation. There is no issue with that,” Obi said.

The Labour Party presidential candidate visited several markets in Lagos over the weekend as part of his campaign activities. He sought to canvass for votes in the city, which has a significant voting population and is expected to play a key role in the outcome of the 2023 presidential elections.

Obi’s visit to Lagos has been seen as an attempt to gain support from voters in the southwest region of Nigeria, which is traditionally a stronghold of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The presidential candidate has been campaigning vigorously in different parts of the country as he seeks to win the support of voters ahead of the polls.

The visit to Lagos also provided an opportunity for Obi to interact with traders and other residents of the city. The presidential candidate promised to address some of the challenges facing the country if elected, including insecurity, unemployment, and poor infrastructure.
