Sabitzer, who is on loan from Bayern Munich, will not be available for the first leg due to a yellow card suspension he received while playing for his parent club in the Bundesliga.
Meanwhile, Martinez picked up his third booking of the competition in United’s final group game, ruling him out of the crucial match against Barcelona.
To make matters worse, United will also be without Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek, who are both out with long-term injuries. Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s opening game of Euro 2020, while Van de Beek has been struggling with an ankle injury for several months.
In addition, Scott McTominay is expected to miss out through injury, while there are question marks over the fitness of Antony and Anthony Martial. Despite these setbacks, Manchester United remain determined to give their all and secure a victory over Barcelona.
Manager Erik ten Hag has expressed his confidence in the team’s ability to cope with the absences, saying that they have enough depth in the squad to overcome any challenges. “We have a strong team and we’ll give our all in every game,” he said.
