-LASG decries high rate of illegal property development in the state

-LASG notes the persistent refusal of developers and property owners to obtain planning permits before embarking on building construction

-According to the Lagos govt, no development should be embarked upon without the knowledge of LASBCA

The Lagos State Government, through the State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, has decried the high rate of illegal property development in the State and the persistent refusal of developers and property owners to obtain planning permits before embarking on building construction.

A release issued by the State Commissioner for the Ministry, Dr. Idris Salako, noted that with dismay the indiscriminate removal of seal on properties that had been identified as defective by the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA)

While describing the act of seal removal as a complete disregard to the Urban and Regional Planning Laws and Regulations in the State, the statement implored all developers and property owners in Lagos to obtain planning permits for all their development activities to avoid sanctions.

The release said “The Ministry and its Agencies (LASPPPA, LASBCA & LASPEMA) by this notice will not hesitate to invoke the relevant sections of the Lagos State Urban and Regional Planning Law, 2010 on every contravening development in the State that compromised planning standards and regulations”.

It outlined further that “No development should be embarked upon without the knowledge of LASBCA for Stage Certification or occupied after construction without Certificate of Completion and Fitness for Habitation”.

The release, therefore, enjoined all stakeholders in the built industry to voluntarily conform and regularise their developments with relevant Urban and Regional Planning laws and Regulations of the State.
