2023 KOGI, IMO & BAYELSA GUBERNATORIAL ELECTION UPDATES
FACT CHECK: Are PDP, APC, And LP Presidential Election Results The Same In Gombe, Bauchi?
On Tuesday afternoon, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party (LP), and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) held a joint press conference to reject the collation process of the presidential election results.
The political parties called on the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, to step down and asked President Muhammadu to appoint a replacement.
EDITOR’S PICKS
At the briefing, the National Chairman of the PDP, Iyorchia Ayu, claimed that the presidential results in Gombe and Bauchi States are the same.
He said the PDP scored 319,123 votes, while the APC and LP polled 146,977 and 26,160 votes respectively in Gombe and Bauchi States.
Ayu, therefore, concluded that the INEC has compromised the process by allocating results.
However, checks by Eko Hot Blog revealed that the PDP chairman’s claims were false.
It appears Ayu relied on the misleading tabulation of a civil society organisation, Civichive.
Civichive has been a source of the election results for some Nigerians but checks by Eko Hot Blog revealed that the organisation uploaded the same results for PDP, APC, and LP in Gombe and Bauchi States, generating confusion.
The official INEC results sighted by our reporter show that the presidential election results in Gombe and Bauchi States are significantly different.
In Gombe, the electoral umpire announced that the PDP received 319,123 votes, the APC polled 146,977, and the LP got 26,160.
