Is Lagos A ‘No Man’s Land’? Yul Edochie Wades Into Controversy
-
Social media is a consistent space for heated debates about the status of Lagos State.
-
While some argue that the state is a “no man’s land”, others contend that the state is a Yoruba land.
-
Yul Edochie is the latest figure to join the debate.
Eko Hot Blog reports that popular Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie, has said Lagos State is a Yoruba land that has accommodated people of all tribes.
He was responding to claims that the state is a “no man’s land.” Such arguments have dismissed the idea of the state being a Yoruba land.

In a lengthy Instagram post on Saturday, Edochie rejected any argument or insinuation that Lagos, a predominantly Yoruba state, is a “no man’s land.”
The actor, who said it is wrong to say Lagos is a no man’s land, noted that he has never experienced hate from Yoruba people.
“I’ve lived in Lagos since 2011. Built my house in Lagos. Not once have I experienced any form of hate or rejection from the Yorubas,” he wrote.
“Anytime Yoruba boys see me on the street, they gather to greet me, and it’s all love always. And this talk flying around that Lagos is a no man’s land is wrong.
“Lagos is a Yoruba state in Yoruba land. Imagine someone saying that Anambra is a no man land, That’s crap. Anambra is an Igbo land. You can’t come into someones land and tell the person its now a no man land na you dey find trouble.
“Nobody can deny the fact that the Igbos have contributed immensely to the development of Lagos.
“Other tribes have contributed in their own ways too. And the Yoruba’s have been largely accommodating as well. It shouldn’t take away the fact that Lagos is a Yoruba land. We no dey drag ownership.
“Let’s kill tribalism before it kills us.”
Truly, Lagos State is a Yoruba land in the southwestern part of Nigeria. The vast majority of Lagos residents speak the Yoruba language.

However, the state houses Nigerians from all tribes, which makes it arguably the only state in the country where foreigners often hold political offices.
