I Almost Fled Before My Victory – Edo Lawmaker-Elect Gives Testimony
  • Edo lawmaker-elect, Esosa Iyawe gives testimony after winning big in the 2023 elections.

  • Esosa reveals he almost fled Nigeria shortly before his victory was made possible under the umbrella of the Labour Party.

  • The lawmaker-elect reveals that he was driven into politics owing to the high cost of living in the country which also factored into his decision to flee the country.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Esosa Iyawe, a 40-year-old graduate of Benson Idahosa University, who recently won a seat in the House of Representatives to represent the Oredo Federal Constituency of Edo State in the National Assembly, has revealed that he had planned to relocate to another country before his unexpected victory.

In an interview with Punch, Iyawe disclosed that he decided to enter politics due to the high cost of living and the deplorable state of the nation, which had made him consider relocating.

He said that he felt compelled to run for office as he believed that he could make a positive impact on the people of Oredo.

“I believe that we need laws based on common sense to make things work. As an engineer, I believe that I have the capacity to do things that will positively impact the people of Oredo. That was why I actually jumped into the race,” Iyawe explained.

He further revealed that he had initially joined the Labour Party after Obi defected from the PDP and joined the party. His aim was to support Obi and make and support bills that would enable him to function well as one of his disciples.

During his campaign, Iyawe had a unique approach, which he believes was instrumental in his victory. Rather than rely on the usual tactics of handing out money to voters, he visited the common man and educated them on the importance of taking power rather than money.

“My slogan during the campaign was: ‘You either take power or money’. I let them know that taking power means a better future for our children. If I wasn’t a candidate, I would have been among the people at the forefront of campaigning against the old order,” he said.
