‘Lives And Properties Will Be Protected’ – Police Speaks On PDP’s Planned Protest At INEC HQ

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has said it will provide adequate security for members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) planning to lead a protest march in Abuja today.

This online media platform gathered that the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, is set to lead party leaders, governors, and members on a protest march to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters, Abuja, over the outcome of the February 25 presidential election.

According to a notice released by the party on Sunday, the planned protest is expected to take off by 10 am from the PDP headquarters, Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja.

The opposition party also directed members planning to attend the protest march to wear black attires in demonstration of the sombre mood of the party.

Speaking with The Punch on Sunday, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Sadiq Abubakar, assured Abuja residents that the command will ensure the security of lives and property during the protest march.

Abubakar added that the command will ensure that the protest is peaceful, democratic, and devoid of violence.

He said, “Protests have so many categories. Ours is to ensure that a protest is peaceful. However, it is not in my capacity to determine whether it is right or wrong for them to protest.
