Real Madrid had defeated Liverpool 5-2 in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie at Anfield in February. Speaking about the injury, Ancelotti revealed that Benzema would miss the La Liga game against Espanyol due to the ankle injury.
“Benzema has a blow to the ankle, he has not been able to join the group,” Ancelotti said. “He [Benzema] will be available on Wednesday.”
Ancelotti also said that Mendy will start training with the team on Sunday and is expected to return for the Liverpool match.
Real Madrid will need to navigate through the second leg against Liverpool without their star striker, who has been in fine form for the club this season.
