EKO HOT BLOG reports that Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, has given reasons for his absence from the governorship debate held in the state on Wednesday.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Sunny Areh, Omo-Agege stated that he failed to attend the debate because his major contender, Sheriff Oborevwori, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was absent.

According to the statement, the invitation for the debate came late and the campaign organization had other engagements lined up, but Omo-Agege was prepared to review his appointments and participate in the debate with a caveat that Oborevwori must also be present.
However, the campaign organization confirmed that Oborevwori had pulled out of the debate, which was not surprising to Omo-Agege, as the PDP candidate had repeatedly indicated that he would not participate in any debate.
The statement read: “Senator Omo-Agege is not inclined to participate in the debate when Rt. Hon. Oborevwori is not there. However, if as the PDP stated in their letter declining the offer from Arise News that should the organization reschedule it to a new date, their candidate may consider participating, Senator Omo-Agege will promptly review his decision.”
The statement added that if Oborevwori changes his mind and decides to participate in the debate, Omo-Agege will adjust his schedule to participate.

The statement also emphasized that a debate involving all the candidates is an opportunity for the public to further assess the programmes of each candidate, but it can only be meaningful and wholesome if the major candidates, especially the ruling party’s flag bearer, are willing to participate.
The governorship election in Delta State is scheduled for Saturday, March 18, 2023.
