The reason for Tenebe’s arrest is yet to be made public, but it is believed to be linked to a recent video in which he allegedly accused the Deputy Governor of sundry issues. Tenebe, a popular mobilizer for the APC and a strong loyalist of the former state governor Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, is known for his vocal criticism of the opposition party in the state.
The arrest of Tenebe has sparked concerns among APC supporters in the state, who see it as an attempt to intimidate them ahead of the election. Some have also criticized the Deputy Governor for allegedly using his position to persecute political opponents.
The Edo State House of Assembly election is expected to be a keenly contested one, as both the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have been campaigning vigorously to win the majority of seats. The election is seen as a litmus test for the two parties ahead of the state’s gubernatorial election in 2024.
