INEC Defends Awarding Contract To Company ‘Linked’ To APC’s Binani
-
A news report recently claimed that INEC awarded a contract to a company owned by the APC governorship candidate in Adamawa.
-
The award was reportedly for printing election results sheets for the 2023 general elections.
-
The electoral commission has defended the decision.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied awarding a contract for the printing of sensitive election materials to the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, better known as Binani.
An online news agency had reported that INEC awarded N434,372,649 to Binani Printing Press Limited to print election results sheets for the 2023 general elections.

The report alleged that Ahmed is the owner of the company, which shares her nickname, Binani.
Reacting to the report in a statement signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, INEC, Festus Okoye, on Thursday night, the commission said it vetted Binani Printing Press Limited before awarding the contract, noting that the governorship candidate was not listed as one of the company’s directors.
“Our attention has been drawn to a news report that the commission awarded a contract for the printing of sensitive election materials to Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed. It was alleged in the report that she owns Binani Printing Press Limited,” the statement reads.
“Procurements in the commission go through open competitive bidding and Binani Printing Press Limited was one of the security printing companies that applied to print security documents for the commission.
After inspecting the company’s facility and carrying out due diligence at the Corporate Affairs Commission, the commission was satisfied that they are qualified printers with the requisite technical capacity, security consciousness and expertise in printing security documents.
“However, Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed was not listed as one of the Directors of Binani Printing Press Limited.”
According to the INEC spokesperson, the commission decided to print all the security documents for the 2023 General Election in the country to help Nigerian printers and assist in growing the national economy.
