Am Not A Yoruba Man -- Labour Party Candidate In Abia State Begs
  • Tribal sentiments rise again in the South East of Nigeria as Labour Party candidate in the House of Assembly elections in Abia State has to convince tribesmen of being Igbo.

  • Anthony Chinasa Abiola explains the reason behind the name Abiola despite being a full blooded Igbo.

  • He explains it is an homage to the Labour Party governorship candidate of Lagos State.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Anthony Chinasa-Abiola, the candidate for the Labour Party who won a seat in the Abia state House of Assembly, has dismissed claims that he is from the Yoruba ethnic group.

Speculations had arisen due to the ‘Abiola’ attached to his name, which is typically associated with the Yoruba tribe.

EDITOR’S PICKS:

During an interview with TVC, Chinasa-Abiola explained that he adopted the name Abiola to show support for Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, who was the Labour Party candidate in the Lagos state governorship election. He clarified that Abiola is merely a “guy name” and that he has no affiliation with the Yoruba tribe.

Chinasa-Abiola’s win in the Abia state House of Assembly election came as a surprise to many, as the Labour Party is not considered a major political force in the state. However, his victory has been attributed to his grassroots mobilization and campaign strategy.

Speaking further during the interview, Chinasa-Abiola expressed his commitment to serving his constituents in Abia state, regardless of their ethnic background. He stated that his focus will be on improving the lives of the people in his constituency by pushing for development and providing effective representation.
