1. Police recover gun, others from fleeing suspects in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has recovered a gun and six cartridges from fleeing suspects in the Egbe area of the state.

Police spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, stated in Lagos on Saturday that the items were recovered by policemen on patrol duty in the area.

He stated that on sighting the police patrol team, the suspects dropped a polyethylene bag and fled.

“On sighting a police patrol vehicle on the ever-busy Liasu Road in Egbe, the hoodlums dropped a polyethylene bag and took to their heels.

“On checking the bag, a locally-made firearm and six live cartridges were recovered,’’ he explained.

2. Elections: EFCC arrests 12 in Kano, Katsina for vote-buying

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said it arrested 12 persons for alleged vote-buying during the Saturday’s supplementary polls in Kano and Katsina states.

The EFCC Kano Zonal Commander, Faruk Dogondaji, told the News Agency of Nigeria in an interview that the suspects were arrested with N1.5 million cash in Kano and Katsina states.

According to him, 10 were arrested in Doguwa Local Government Area of Kano State and two in Kankiya LGA of Katsina State.

Dogondaji said the suspects were arrested while attempting to induce eligible voters with cash at some polling units.

3. I punched devil in the face – Ooni’s ex-queen Naomi

Prophetess Naomi Silekunola, the former wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has said that she gave the devil a punch in the face as she recounts her journey in life.

The former queen who said this in a note on her Instagram page as she marked her 30th birthday on Saturday, said it was with the grace of God she was able to do that.

She noted that her 30th birthday was significant adding that the last 29 years were a preparation for this moment and the future.

“The journey here has been beautiful, I can’t believe it’s three decades already. Yaweh has been faithful.

4. Hit-and-run driver kills Okada rider, two passengers in Ogun

A commercial motorcyclist, otherwise known as Okada rider, and his two passengers have been killed by a hit-and-run driver in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said its night rescue team carried out a rescue operation on the Abeokuta-Sagamu route around Okemosan, Abeokuta.

The FRSC spokesman in Ogun, Florence Okpe said the corps received information about the crash at about 5 am on Saturday.

5. INEC declares Ogun speaker winner Ifo 1 constituency

The Independent National Electoral Commission on Saturday declared the Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo, winner of the Ifo 1 State Constituency election.

The Returning Officer for Ifo State Constituency 1, Prof. Richard Shobayo, while declaring Oluomo as the winner, said, the speaker polled 7,546 votes to defeat his arch-rival, Yusuf Ogundele of the Peoples Democratic Party, who garnered 6,596 votes.

The returning officer said a total of 18,378 voters were accredited l, as against 95,448 registered voters in the Constituency.

6. Poll: APC wins Ido/Osi supplementary elections in Ekiti

No fewer than three persons were reportedly killed while three houses were set ablaze during a clash between residents and thugs who invaded the Wudil local government area of Kano State.

It was reliably gathered that the thugs had invaded the area with the intent to disrupt the supplementary election as they insisted on voting but were prevented by the residents.

A source who spoke to Vanguard on condition of anonymity said the incident happened between Utai and Achika district areas.

7. Sylva clinches APC guber ticket in Bayelsa

Former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, has emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 11, 2023 governorship election in Bayelsa State.

The former governor defeated the former candidate of the party in the last governorship election, David Lyon, and four other aspirants to emerge winner of the primary election which took place across the 105 wards in the eight local government areas of the state.

Sylva polled 52,061 out of the 55,141 total votes cast by delegates of the party in the state.

Lyon, who won the majority votes in the last gubernatorial election in the state before he was removed by the Supreme Court on the eve of his inauguration, came a distant third with 1,872 votes, while Joshua Maciver came second with 2,078 votes.

8. Six feared killed as violence mars A’Ibom supplementary polls

Six persons are feared killed during the supplementary elections held in Ikono/Ini and Abak federal constituencies of Akwa Ibom State on Saturday.

A National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) member, serving as Ad-hoc staff, has also reportedly been shot and critically injured.

The Ikono/Ini rerun election is between the incumbent House of Representatives member, Mr. Emmanuel Ukpong Udo of the Young Peoples Party (YPP) ticket and a former Commissioner, Glory Edet, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

As of the time of filing this report, Udo was leading Edet by a margin of 4,161 votes.

9. Kogi APC guber primary: Smart Adeyemi, 4 others reject outcome

The outcome of the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kogi State, has been rejected by some aspirants.

APC in Kogi State held its primary election, which produced Ahmed Usman Ododo as its governorship candidate.

Aspirants who rejected the result of the primary election include Senator Smart Adeyemi, ex-Minister of State for Labour and Productivity, Professor Stephen Ocheni, son of late ex-Governor Abubakar Audu, Shuaibu, and Murtala Yakubu Ajaka.

10. Zamfara rerun poll: APC’s Marafa blasts PDP over vote-buying allegation

Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa has blasted the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Zamfara State for claiming that the All Progressives Congress, APC, engaged in vote buying during the just concluded National Assembly rerun election in the State.

Senator Marafa stated this during an interview with newsmen at his Yandoto country home, in Tsafe Local Government Area.

“Though I am not surprised by PDP’s claim because the party since inception has been noted for complaining even when there is no reason for complaint,” he said.
