1. ₦6bn fraud: Ex-JAMB registrar, Ojerinde’s trial begins Wednesday 

The money laundering trial of a former Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, Professor Dibu Ojerinde, alongside his four children accused of diverting about ₦6billion fund, comes up tomorrow, Wednesday, April 19, at Justice Ekwo’s Court, Federal High Court, Maitama, Abuja.

An impeccable source at the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission confirmed to our correspondent Tuesday night that Ojerinde is expected to be arraigned alongside his four children at 9 am on Wednesday.

The PUNCH reports how the ICPC dragged the Professor, six private companies, and four of his children to court before Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Maitama, Abuja, for their alleged involvement in official corruption.

Ojerinde was further accused of creating six companies and running accounts under fictitious names to divert government money for private use.

2. Why Senate Presidency should go to South-South – PANDEF 

The Pan Niger Delta Forum has joined the call for the zoning of the 10th National Assembly Senate presidency to the South-South.

The group in a statement on Tuesday urged the ruling All Progressives Congress to zone the Senate presidency to the South-South for the sake of justice and equity.

The statement which was signed by the National Publicity Secretary, PANDEF, Ken Robinson, further argued that the last time someone from the South-South region occupied the Office of Senate President was during the 2nd Republic (1979/1983), when the late  Senator Joseph Wayas, from Cross River State, was elected, first in October 1979, and, again, in October 1983, before that Republic was truncated on 31st December 1983.

3. Fire guts UNIBEN female hostel 

A female students’ hotel at the Ekehuan campus of the University of Benin was on Tuesday gutted by fire.

The inferno, reports said, destroyed some documents and properties at the university.

A source told the News Agency of Nigeria that the incident, which started at midday, however, claimed no life.

While an account said the cause of the fire could not be ascertained, another source said it was ignited by a surge from an electric cooker, popularly known as ‘hot plate’, that one of the female students was using.

4. I’ll prosecute those behind Adamawa election fiasco – Fintiri 

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has vowed to prosecute those behind the fiasco that took place during the supplementary election in the state over the weekend.

Recall that on Sunday, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC had to suspend the collation of results after the Adamawa REC, Hudu Yunusa Ari declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Aishatu Binani as the winner of the election devoid of results.

The declaration sparked chaos with reported assaults on some INEC officials.

5. Tinubu urged to reinstate ex-EFCC boss, Magu 

President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been called upon by a chieftain of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kaduna State, Yusuf Aliyu, to review the circumstances surrounding the sacking of the erstwhile Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, on the assumption of office on May 29 for the sake of posterity.

Aliyu said it was not too late to revisit the sacking of Magu, hence he decided to call on the President-elect, Tinubu, to constitute a committee to review the report of the Justice Salami Panel of Inquiry kicked out the former EFCC boss.

In a statement issued to newsmen, the APC chieftain wondered how Magu was sacked without letting the Nigerian public know his offenses even though a panel of inquiry was instituted to try him.

“Justice has a long memory and no matter the time it takes, the truth is never stale hence the call on the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, to constitute a committee to review the report of the Justice Salami Panel of Inquiry against Magu.

6. IGP boosts welfare of officers with accommodations in Kano 

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba on Tuesday boosted the welfare of officers and men of the Kano State Police Command by providing them with a befitting accommodation in the state.

IGP Baba during the commissioning ceremony and handing over of keys to the officers in Bompai barracks, Kano, urged them to reciprocate the gesture by discharging their job effectively and efficiently noting that “to whom much is given, much is expected.”

The Police Chief who was represented by the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Dauda said the project was executed under the Public Private Partnership, PPP with Vlaar homes limited and aimed at providing a conducive working environment for officers and men to do the needful in terms of crime prevention and control and maintenance of law and order in the state.
