President Buhari Inaugurates N1Billion TETFUND Project In Ekiti

EKO HOT BLOG reports that in the effort to enhance teaching and learning across three universities in Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari inaugurated six projects funded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) with a total worth of approximately N1 billion in Ekiti State.

The projects, amounting to N995.6 million, will benefit the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology in Ikere Ekiti, Ekiti State University in Ado Ekiti, and the Federal University in Oye Ekiti.

Representing President Buhari, the Minister of Industry and Trade, Adeniyi Adebayo, attended the inauguration ceremonies held at Ikere Ekiti, Ado Ekiti, and Oye Ekiti. The President emphasized that the commissioning of these projects will significantly enhance teaching, learning, and academic standards in the beneficiary institutions.

Acknowledging the outstanding performance of TETFUND in providing infrastructure, supporting academic staff training and development, and other areas in tertiary institutions, President Buhari assured continued government support to ensure the country’s educational institutions become globally competitive for economic and technological development.

Sonny Echono, the Executive Secretary of TETFUND, noted that the completion and commissioning of the projects exemplified efficient management of federal government resources by the organization, aligning with its mandate to provide essential infrastructure for teaching, learning, and research.

Echono, represented by Babatunde Olajide, the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation at TETFUND, expressed the government’s commitment to facilitating high global rankings and competitiveness of tertiary institutions through the provision of conducive learning environments that enable scholars and students to thrive and excel.

Providing a breakdown of the projects, Echono revealed that the Vocation Education Workshop Complex at Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology cost N318 million.

A TETFUND Project

At the Federal University in Oye Ekiti, the three projects, which included the construction and furnishing of a Lecture Theatre Block for the Faculty of Science, amounted to N369.89 million.

Additionally, at Ekiti State University, the Faculty of Social Sciences Twin Lecture Theatre and the Medical Ward for the University Health Centre were completed at a cost of N306.85 million.

Professor Olufemi Adeoluwa, the Vice-Chancellor of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, commended President Buhari and TETFUND for providing the vocational education workshop, stating that it will enhance the delivery of higher quality education and equip staff and students with relevant skills, giving them a competitive edge.

Adeoluwa further highlighted that TETFUND had played a pivotal role in elevating all tertiary institutions in Nigeria by providing physical infrastructure, standard learning facilities, sponsorship for conference attendance, academic staff training and development, library development, and ICT interventions.
