According to a news release from the US Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California, Jacob confessed to Federal authorities that he had planned to crash the plane as part of a video promoting a wallet. Furthermore, he admitted to obstructing a federal investigation by disposing of the wreckage to impede the probing of the crash site.
The ill-fated flight occurred on November 24, 2021, when Jacob departed from Lompoc City Airport in Santa Barbara County. However, he admitted in the plea agreement that he had never intended to land the aircraft. Instead, his plan was to eject himself mid-flight, capturing the dramatic descent and crash on video while parachuting safely to the ground.
In preparation for the stunt, Jacob strategically installed multiple cameras throughout the plane and equipped himself with a parachute, video camera, and selfie stick.
Approximately 35 minutes after takeoff, while flying above the Los Padres National Forest near Santa Maria, he executed his plan by ejecting from the airplane and recording himself parachuting to the ground.
Once he safely landed, Trevor Daniel Jacob hiked to the crash site and retrieved the video footage of the crash. Instead of fully cooperating with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), he intentionally misled authorities by claiming ignorance of the crash site’s location.
Approximately two weeks later, he returned to the site in the company of a friend, removed the wreckage, and subsequently destroyed it.
The YouTuber eventually reported the crash to the National Transportation Safety Board two days after the incident and agreed to disclose the crash site’s location.
However, according to the news release, he deceitfully informed authorities that he did not know the whereabouts of the crash site. This false statement was corroborated by the plea agreement, which further details Jacob’s subsequent actions of retrieving the wreckage and disposing of it.
As a consequence of his admission, Trevor Daniel Jacob has agreed to plead guilty to one count of destruction and concealment with the intent to obstruct a federal investigation. The impending sentencing will determine the appropriate legal ramifications for his actions.
This incident brings attention to the influence of social media and highlights the need for responsible content creation that prioritizes safety and ethical considerations.
