Court Lifts Suspension on Julius Abure, Labour Party Excos

EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a significant legal development, Justice Hamza Muazu of the FCT High Court has issued an order of stay execution on the suspension of Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, along with other party executives. The suspension had previously been imposed by the party.

The court ruling also lifts the suspension of two other party officials, namely Clement Ojukwu, the National Organising Secretary, and Oluchi Opara, the National Treasurer.

The order for stay execution was granted in response to an appeal filed by the defendants, who sought the removal of Abure and the other national officers of the Labour Party.

The plaintiffs in the case, comprising Martins Esikpali John, Lucky Shaibu, Isah Zekeri, Omogbai Frank, Abokhaiu Aliu, Ayohkaire Lateef, John Elomah, and Dr Ayobami Arabambi, had initially obtained an interim injunction on April 5 that restrained Abure, Ibrahim, Ojukwu, and Opara from acting as national officers of the Labour Party.

During the court proceedings, the defendants informed the court that they had a notice of appeal pending at the Court of Appeal.

Following extensive arguments from both parties, Justice Hamza Muazu granted the order for a stay on the suspension, effectively halting the authority of Acting National Chairman Lamidi Apapa, who had been attempting to assert control over the party in Abure’s absence.

The Labour Party will now need to reassess its leadership structure and chart a way forward following the court’s decision. With the suspension lifted, Abure and his reinstated colleagues will likely resume their duties and strive to bring stability and unity to the party.
