1. Buhari appoints Toyin Madein as Accountant-General

The President, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari(retd), has approved the appointment of Toyin Madein as the substantive Accountant-General of the Federation.

This was contained in a statement, dated May 19, 2023, which was signed by the Director, Communications, Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mohammed Abdullahi Ahmed, on Friday, in Abuja.

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan, stated that the appointment took effect from Thursday, May 18, 2023.

2. LP rejects Alex Otti, other Abia, Kano candidates’ elections nullification

The leadership of Labour Party has rejected the nullification of the candidature of Abia State Governor-elect, Dr Alex Otti, and some other party representatives.

The reaction is coming hours after a Federal High Court sitting in Kano State dismissed the governor-elect and other candidates.

Aside from Otti, the court presided over by Justice M N Yunusa also nullified the candidature of all Labour Party flag bearers in Abia and Kano States.

3. Tension in Agbor as gunmen kidnap two NRC staff

At least two staff of the Nigerian Railway Corporation at Agbor train station have been kidnapped by gunmen throwing the community into panic and apprehension, The PUNCH reports.

The victims were identified as Peter Osazuwa, STCI Level 10 officer in Operations and Commercial Department and Level Nine Officer from Kwara State, Giwa Mohammed in the Stores and Procurement Department.

A source in NRC who does not want to be named informed that the victims were staffers of the Warri-Itakpe train service in Agbor, while the incident took place some few minutes distance from the Owa-Alero ancestral residence of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

4. Bayero urges Tinubu to establish Ministry of Religious Affairs

The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero has urged the President-elect, Bola Tinubu to establish the Ministry of Religious Affairs, to promote interfaith dialogue and peaceful coexistence in the country.

Bayero made the call on Friday in Kano at the inauguration of the Interfaith Facilitators’ Guide organised by the ActionAid Nigeria.

Represented by Babba Dan-Agundi,  District Head of Nasarawa, the emir said the ministry would be charged with the responsibilities of promoting religious tolerance and understanding among Nigerians.

5. Posterity will be kind to Buhari, world will miss him – Ghanaian President

Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo said posterity will be kind to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Akufo-Addo stated this while unveiling two books written on the legacies of Buhari at the presidential villa, Abuja.

The Ghanaian President also said the world will miss the leadership acumen of President Buhari when he leaves office.

Buhari will be handing over to the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on May 29 after serving a two-term of eight years.

6. NYSC DG lied on Enugu Governor-elect certificate – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Enugu State, has faulted the claim by the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig Gen Yusha’u Dogara Ahmed, that he told the Governor-elect of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, that his discharge certificate was not issued by the NYSC.

Recall that Ahmed disclosed this while appearing on Arise TV programme, Friday morning.

The PDP, however, said his claim was in sync with the agency’s conspiracy, deceit, and wilful misrepresentation of facts, which necessitated Mbah’s N20 Billion lawsuit against it.
