EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a decisive judgment, Julius Abure has been officially recognized as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) by a State High Court in Edo.
The court ruling, delivered on Friday, set aside a lawsuit brought forward by the camp led by Lamidi Apapa, affirming Abure’s leadership position.

It was revealed that some party members at the ward level had issued a notice of suspension against Abure. However, Justice Emmanuel Aihamoje, the presiding high court judge, dismissed the case on grounds of lacking merit.
During the two-hour court session on Friday, Justice Aihamoje stated that the ward executive in Uromi, specifically in Ward 3, did not possess the authority, as outlined in the LP constitution, particularly Act 13 & 17, and the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended), to remove the national chairman of the party.
Consequently, in Suit No: HUC/21/2023, the judge proceeded to impose a perpetual injunction against Lamidi Apapa and his faction, prohibiting them from removing or suspending Abure as the national chairman until a new national convention of the party is convened.
Justice Aihamoje further emphasized that the ward three executives who initiated the suspension of the party’s national chairman had acted beyond the powers vested in them by the Labour Party Constitution.
Following the court’s verdict, the LP Ward 3 Chairman, Thompson Ehiguese, addressed journalists and expressed his satisfaction with the judgement. He declared that the ruling had put an end to impostors masquerading as members of the Labour Party in the ward.
Ehiguese stated, “These charlatans claiming to be members of our party are from Edo North and members of the APC. I want to use this medium to congratulate the Labour Party and the Obidient Movement that stood firmly with Comrade Julius Abure while the sponsored crisis in our great party lasted.”
He further highlighted that the court’s decision explicitly affirmed Barrister Julius Abure as the national chairman until the party convention takes place next year. Ehiguese emphasized the unwavering commitment to reclaim the Nigerian masses’ mandate, freely given to Mr. Peter Obi and the Labour Party in the last presidential election.
