The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has unveiled five pillars of development to take the state to the next level.

They include traffic management and transportation, health and environment, education and technology, entertainment and tourism and making Lagos a 21st century economy.

Speaking at the unveiling of Vision for a greater Lagos, held in Ikeja at the weekend, Sanwo-olu said there is urgent need to take the state to next level noting that Lagos as the commercial heartbeat of the nation contributes over 30 percent of Nigeria’s GDPs and 65 percent of her manufacturing activities.

He said: “I can promise that under my leadership, Lagos will be truly ready for business opportunities. I am determined to both propagate and defend these values in a sustainable manner through an inclusive governance approach that would be considerate to all.”

Sanwo-Olu stated that an efficient transportation system is of vital importance for the future development of Lagos as well as traffic management.

“The state currently caters for over 24 million trips per day, which is expected to increase to over 40 million in the next two decades. As a result, there is a need to properly regulate and optimize the efficiency of our transport system to constantly meet the needs of our growing population”.

“To address this, the policy thrust of our administration will be to prioritize the attainment of a reliable multimodal transportation system with the following objectives, which include reduce delays, reduce travel-related stress and improve journey time reliability, particularly for business travel and the movement of goods, by improving access to and within activity centres. Improve safety whilst enabling all sectors of society to travel to the destinations they need to reach. Give priority to those means of travel that are less damaging to our natural and built sustainable environment”.
