During the court proceedings, Adam Shola admitted to the charge and appealed for leniency in sentencing. In response, Justice Mohammed reviewed the evidence presented by the prosecutor and expressed satisfaction with its weight.

Based on the evidence and the defendant’s guilty plea, Justice Mohammed pronounced the accused guilty and delivered a summary conviction. The labourer was subsequently sentenced to four years in prison, with the term starting from the day of his arrest, May 5.

In addition to the conviction, Justice Mohammed directed the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to destroy the confiscated drugs after 90 days if the defendant did not appeal the judgment.

According to the NDLEA Counsel, T. I. Atserhegh, the defendant was apprehended on May 5 at Kawo Bus Stop in Kaduna while engaged in the sale of the illicit substance. The NDLEA operatives seized approximately 5kg of cannabis sativa, which is a narcotic drug comparable to cocaine, heroin, and LSD.

The offence committed by Adam Shola falls under Section 11(c) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act, Cap 30, LFN 2004. As evidence, the prosecutor presented a transparent envelope containing remnants of the drug, urging the court to convict the defendant based on his admission and the presented evidence.

With the conviction of Adam Shola, the court sends a strong message about its commitment to combating drug-related crimes and upholding the law. The sentencing serves as a deterrent to others involved in the illegal drug trade and emphasizes the consequences of engaging in such activities.
