EKO HOT BLOG reports that Bode George, the former Deputy National Chairman (South) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has refuted claims that he expressed willingness to work with a government led by Bola Tinubu, a prominent political figure in Nigeria. Contrary to the initial reports, George clarified his stance during an interview on Arise TV, affirming his opposition to Tinubu.
Last week, a quote attributed to Bode George circulated widely, suggesting that he would collaborate with a hypothetical Tinubu-led administration if extended an invitation.
This statement came as a surprise to many, given George’s previous remarks stating that he would go into exile if Tinubu were to become President of Nigeria.
During his appearance on Arise TV on Monday, June 5, George reiterated his steadfast position against Tinubu. He clarified the context of his previous comment, which had been misconstrued.
“When they asked me, ‘What will you do if Tinubu invites you?’ and I said precisely that if he (Tinubu) calls me, I will pray for Nigeria,” George explained. “Listen, I’m not a flip-flopper by any profession. I retired as a General. What will he be calling me for? We don’t belong to the same party.”
Bode George made it clear that his stance on Tinubu remains unaltered, emphasizing that any interaction between them would strictly be on a formal basis. He mentioned a recent encounter with Papa Olusi, who had tried to persuade George to pay a congratulatory visit to Tinubu.
However, George firmly declined, stating, “No, I can’t do that.” He also highlighted that ongoing court cases further complicated any potential interactions.
Addressing the differences between himself and Tinubu, George clarified that they were purely administrative and did not stem from personal animosity. He expressed that he holds no personal qualms against Tinubu, but their political differences and affiliations drive their opposing positions.
With his latest statement, Bode George sought to rectify the misrepresentation of his views, asserting his unwavering opposition to the idea of working with Tinubu. As a seasoned politician and former military officer, George stressed the need for clarity and consistency in his stance, ensuring that his words are not subject to misinterpretation.
As political dynamics continue to unfold in Nigeria, Bode George’s reaffirmation of his opposition to Tinubu’s potential government reinforces the notion that political alliances and affiliations play a significant role in shaping the country’s political landscape.
