Speaking during his homily at St. Augustine’s Parish, Sun City, Abuja, Archbishop Kaigama emphasized that now that Tinubu has assumed the presidency, it is incumbent upon him to fulfill the promises he made to the bishops. He emphasized that the memo they had submitted to Tinubu outlined their expectations for his administration and the actions required to address the prevailing issues.
“Our memo to him was very clear about many hurting issues,” Archbishop Kaigama stated.
“Now as President, he must find a way of taming Nigerians with paranoid dispositions who often blow the trumpet of disunity and hostility. He should promote better religious harmony as he promised us, by being fair and just to all religious groups and their adherents. The ball is in his court for now.”
The Catholic Archbishop stressed the importance of President Tinubu taking proactive measures to address the growing trend of disunity and religious tension in Nigeria. He urged the President to adopt policies that promote unity, respect, and understanding among different religious communities. By doing so, Tinubu can effectively counter the divisive narratives and create an atmosphere of harmony and coexistence.
Religious harmony and fair treatment of all religious groups were among the key concerns highlighted by the Catholic Bishops during their meeting with Tinubu before the presidential elections.
Now, as the newly elected President, Tinubu has the opportunity to translate those concerns into action, fostering an inclusive society where every citizen feels respected and valued regardless of their religious affiliation.
As Nigeria looks to the Tinubu administration for leadership, the responsibility to promote religious unity and fairness lies squarely on the President’s shoulders. By prioritizing these issues and implementing policies that reflect the ideals of inclusivity, President Tinubu can contribute to a more harmonious and cohesive nation.
