In a statement released in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, PANDEF spokesperson Ken Robinson acknowledged Akpabio’s ascent to the position and emphasized that it contributes to the establishment of a certain degree of balance within the national government.
Being a representative of the South-South geo-political zone, Akpabio’s election is seen as a positive step towards addressing regional representation concerns and ensuring equitable participation in Nigeria’s governance.
While PANDEF acknowledges the significance of Akpabio’s election, the organization also expressed concern over attempts by certain groups and individuals to advocate for a Muslim-Muslim Senate leadership, deeming such efforts both unfortunate and incendiary.
PANDEF emphasizes the importance of inclusivity and diversity in leadership positions, as it fosters a sense of unity and strengthens the fabric of the nation.
The election of Senator Akpabio, a prominent figure from the South-South region, is seen by PANDEF as a step towards achieving a more balanced and inclusive government that accommodates the interests and aspirations of all Nigerians.
The organization hopes that his presidency will provide a platform for meaningful dialogue, collaboration, and progress, ultimately benefiting the entire nation.
PANDEF’s statement serves as a reminder of the significance of representative leadership and the need for fair and inclusive practices in Nigeria’s political landscape.
