On Tuesday night, the rumour mill was filled with speculations that a former commissioner of police in Lagos State, Rt. AIG Hakeem Odumosu, had been appointed as the substantive chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
A statement circulating on social media claimed that President Bola Tinubu made the appointment on Tuesday.

However, in a statement Wednesday morning, Odumosu denied being appointed as the new anti-corruption czar.
The retired assistant inspector general of police said the rumour emanated from “mischief makers.”
“Good Morning everyone, I have been inundated with so many calls and messages between yesterday and today on a purported “’EFCC Appointment’. I just want to use this opportunity to debunk this information and say it’s totally untrue,” the statement reads.
“This information must have emanated from Mischief Makers and should be totally disregarded.”
Recall that last week, President Tinubu suspended Abdulrasheed Bawa as the EFCC chairman indefinitely over allegations of misconduct levelled against him.

The Department of State Services (DSS) subsequently invited Bawa due to some “investigative reasons.”
