Professor Basirat Oladipupo: New LASUSTECH Deputy VC And Seasoned Academic
On Thursday, July 6, 2023, the Lagos State Government announced that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had appointed Professor Basirat Olushola Oladipupo as the substantive Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of the Lagos State University of Science & Technology (LASUSTECH).
The government said the appointment was communicated by the Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, in a letter dated July 5, 2023.

The appointment is the highlight of an academic career that has spanned decades of excellence.
Professor Oladipupo’s antecedents in and outside of academia indicate she is qualified for the position.
Until her new appointment, the professor of Health Education was the Chairman of the Students Disciplinary Committee at Lagos State University (LASU) and the Coordinator of the University’s SEED Care Project.
Professor Oladipupo joined the Service of LASU in 1998 as a Graduate Assistant and rose through the ranks to a full professor on October 1, 2017.
In the course of her career, she has published well over 40 articles in reputable academic journals both nationally and internationally. She has authored a few books and contributed chapters to books.
The new LASUSTECH DVC has also written and delivered several unpublished articles at various gatherings.
Furthermore, Prof. Oladipupo has attended several trainings, seminars, webinars, and workshops both locally and internationally.
On October 8, 2019, she delivered LASU’s 71st Inaugural Lecture titled ‘Goodie Bag of Health Problems: Health Educator, The Town Crier’ at the University Auditorium.
At the lecture, the university don recommended solutions to common health problems affecting Nigerians. She pinpointed proper waste management as one of the solutions to environmental hazards.
Prof. Oladipupo consequently called on the government, at state and federal levels, to enact and enforce robust environmental laws to curb health disasters.
The vocal academic Amazon also posited that it was essential for children to receive a good diet to ensure that they grow and develop normally, noting that research supports the notion that children perform better in school when well-nourished.
Outside of the university environment, the health education professor has also shown herself to be a leader who has great devotion to her community.
Prof. Oladipupo, an indigene of Epe, Lagos State, is a former president of the Epe Professional Women Association (EPWA).
As EPWA president, she displayed great enthusiasm for social welfare, providing succor to those who were in need.
As the COVID-19 pandemic raged on in 2020 and people struggled to make ends meet, Prof. Oladipupo used her position as EPWA president to meet the needs of struggling families.
Her administration skills encouraged EPWA members to gift cash palliatives to 250 less privileged women across the Epe division in May 2020.
She stated that the objective of coming together as an indivisible entity was to give back to their people in the Epe division, covering Epe Central, Eredo, Agbowa, Ejinrin, Ibeju, and Lekki.
Prof. Oladipupo, reputed as the first female professor in Epe Division, also explained how she had organised EPWA members to hold four programmes, including health campaigns, career talks, and counselling for students, in a calendar year.
Over the years, she has displayed enviable leadership qualities that have prepared her for her latest mission at LASUSTECH.
