Eko Hot Blog reports that Engr. Mukhtaar Tijani, the newly appointed Managing Director of the Lagos Water Corporation (LWC), has embarked on an inspection tour of major waterworks across the state.
According to a statement posted on the state government’s website Tuesday night, the tour was an effort to fulfil the mandate of the LWC and provide improved water services to the residents of Lagos.
Speaking during the tour, Engr. Tijani stated that the purpose of the exercise was to assess the operations, infrastructure and overall efficiency of the plants with the aim of ensuring the continued delivery of high-quality services to the people of Lagos.
According to him, “There is a need to determine the capacity of the water purification and production machinery, including sedimentation tanks, pumping stations, clear water tanks, filters, raw water inlets, and the chemical house at the waterworks.”
Engr. Tijani, however, expressed satisfaction with the dedication and commitment of the Corporation’s staff.
He assured them of his commitment to providing a conducive work environment and continuous training to facilitate high productivity and the effective maintenance of the water plants.
The new LWC boss also revealed that Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has approved emergency measures to ensure the rehabilitation of major waterworks at Iju, Adiyan and Akute Intakes to improve water supply services in the State.
This intervention has resulted in a significant improvement in water availability in most parts of Lagos, Engr. Tijani said.
The Managing Director, accompanied by Engr. Helen Taiwo, the new Executive Director of Operations and key management staff, visited major waterworks including the 45MGD Iju waterworks, 70MGD Adiyan I Waterworks, the under-construction 70MGD Adiyan Phase II water treatment plant, and the Akute Intakes among others.
The tour comes a week after Engr. Tijani took over the reins of LWC from former MD, Engr. Muminu Badmus.
