-
Alausa and tech expert Lola Ade-John are the ministerial nominees from Lagos State.
-
President Tinubu nominated them earlier in August and the senate confirmed them less than two weeks later.
-
Lagos State is one of only eight states with at least two nominees.
Eko Hot Blog reports that President Bola Tinubu has appointed United States-based Nephrologist, Dr. Tunji Alausa, as the Minister of State, Health and Social Welfare and Mrs Lola Ade-John as the Minister of Tourism.
Alausa and Ade-John are the ministerial nominees from Lagos State.
EDITOR’S PICKS
The presidency released their portfolios on Wednesday.
Dr. Alausa, an accomplished physician both home and abroad, hails from Epe, Lagos State.
He is board-certified in Nephrology, and specialises in Internal Medicine and Hypertension.
The physician obtained his first degree from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Medical School, Lagos, Nigeria, and received Specialist Training in Nephrology from the Medical College of Wisconsin, Wisconsin, US.
The minister-designate is the founder of both Kidney Care Center, a nephrology practice and Dialysis Care Center, a rapidly growing provider of boutique dialysis services in Illinois, US.
On the other hand, Ade-John is a distinguished Information and Technology expert.
Throughout her three-decade-long career, she has made significant contributions to the leading banks in Nigeria, holding various senior management roles within and outside Nigeria and solidifying her reputation as a top technology expert.
She served as a System Analyst at the Shell Petroleum Development Company Of Nigeria Ltd for seven years before taking up the roles of Group Head, Corporate Services and Technology at Magnum Trust Bank Ltd. (now part of Sterling Bank Nigeria Plc), Group Head, Support Services and Technology at Access Bank, Head, Applications at the United Bank for Africa (UBA), and Technology Integration Manager at Ecobank Nigeria where she left in March 2013.
DISAPPOINTMENT IN EPE DIVISION
Meanwhile, the appointment of Alausa as a Minister of State has been met with disappointment in Epe, Lagos, where he hails from. Ministers of state are the junior ministers in ministries. They report to senior ministers.
Epe indigenes, who received the news of his nomination with joy and gratitude to Tinubu, had hoped he would be appointed as the senior minister in the Ministry of Health.
Many of them believe that Dr. Alausa, who was named one of America’s Best Physicians in 2007 and 2012, is very qualified to be the senior health minister.
Reacting to the development, the Aremo of Epe Kingdom, Otunba TJ Abass, expressed displeasure with the appointment, saying it disappointed the people of Epe Division.
The Epe chief noted that while Epe indigenes are grateful for the ministerial appointment, they had hoped for a higher position.

Otunba Abass, however, expressed optimism that the president will reconsider the appointment and promote Dr. Alausa.
