Eko Hot Blog reports that the management of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) has once again denied any wrongdoing in the case of a 12-year-old boy who allegedly had his small intestines removed during surgery.

The boy’s mother, Deborah Abiodun, had claimed that her son, Adebola Akin-Bright, had his small intestines removed while he was receiving treatment at LASUTH in July 2023. She said she was informed of the missing intestines by surgeons at the hospital after the surgery.

However, LASUTH has denied this allegation, saying that it did not wilfully remove any organ or structure from Akin-Bright’s body during the surgery.

The hospital said that Akin-Bright was referred to LASUTH from a private hospital, Obitoks Medical Centre, after complications from surgery to correct intestinal obstruction.

LASUTH said that it carried out a corrective surgery on Akin-Bright, but that certain strange findings were discovered during the surgery. The hospital said that it has a video clip of these intraoperative findings, and that Akin-Bright’s mother was informed about them.
