The Permanent Secretary, Lagos Ministry of Transportation, Engr. Abdulhafiz Toriola, made the threat in a statement on Monday.

Toriola said that the barriers were mounted following series of stakeholders’ meetings held to forestall incessant articulated vehicle accidents, which has claimed lives and property.

He emphasised that signages have been mounted to notify truck drivers ahead of the height restriction barriers, but regrated that some of the drivers still run into them, thereby damaging the facilities.

The top official also stated that the government had resolved to impose sanctions on drivers who violate the rules and had also stationed enforcement personnel at the facilities for monitoring purposes.

“The Lagos State Government is equally urging truck drivers to exercise patience when driving in these areas, as the installation of truck barriers aims to prevent accidents,” the statement reads in part.
