The military which took over power forcefully in a coup on August 30, appointed the 68-year-old economist and critic of the ousted President Ali Bongo.
Sima had served as Bongo’s prime minister from 2012 to 2014, before his resignation to run for president against his principal in the 2016 presidential elections in Gabon.
The army officers read a decree on state television, stating Sima as the prime minister in a Television broadcast on Thursday.

On the other hand, Nguema promised to hold “free, transparent and credible elections” to reinstate civilian rule during his inauguration speech; however, he did not state, specifically, the timeframe.
