In a statement issued on Saturday, Akinrinlola said that Obasanjo disrespected the Yoruba monarchs by chastising them for not standing up to honor him and the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
Akinrinlola said that the thrones occupied by the Yoruba monarchs are sacred and older than any president, governor, or human being in existence. He added that the monarchs are revered all over the world and that the respect accorded to them is for the thrones they occupy and not the occupants themselves.
“Culturally, what we respect is the throne and not the age of the person occupying the throne,” Akinrinlola said. “So, former president Obasanjo is wrong on his assertion.”
He added that being a governor or president does not make one older or bigger than the royal fathers, who are symbols of their communities.
