“We Worked Hard To Put Buhari In Power, but Later Fought Him,” Says Baba-Ahmed
Eko Hot Blog reports that Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), opened up about their journey in Nigerian politics. Baba-Ahmed acknowledged their significant efforts to ensure former President Muhammadu Buhari’s rise to leadership in Nigeria.

“The NEF, initially formed not as an opposition group or political party, but as a collective of individuals concerned about the North’s welfare and destiny, evolved over time. They actively contributed to Muhammadu Buhari’s presidential victory by collaborating with like-minded groups.
“However, as circumstances unfolded, Baba-Ahmed confessed that they found themselves at odds with the Buhari administration due to perceived ineptitude and indifference. This discord arose as the North faced challenges, ultimately becoming a prime victim of the government’s policies.
“Baba-Ahmed clarified that while individual NEF members held diverse political opinions and engaged in partisan politics, the group maintained unity in addressing political matters affecting the country. This unity allowed them to navigate the complex landscape of Nigerian politics.
“In his own words, “We have done well, even if I say so myself. We worked hard with others to put President Buhari in power, and worked even harder to insist that he governed well.
“We fought President Buhari’s administration when it became clear that it was inept and indifferent, and the North was becoming both its prime victim and a pariah in a country that it had paid more than its dues to build. We put our cases firmly and as logically as the illogical nature of Nigerian politics allowed.
