MohBad' Protesters Lagos Assembly

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Rivers State Police Command has refuted claims that they halted a planned procession in honor of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, in Port Harcourt on Saturday. They assert that the procession proceeded as planned.

Some Port Harcourt residents and fans of the late singer alleged that the police prevented them from gathering for the candlelight procession in the city.

Despite the cancellation directive for the #Justice for Mohbad procession, some residents chose an alternative location but later dispersed due to a low turnout.

An organizer, known as Gbemisola, contradicted the police’s claims, stating that the State Commissioner of Police had called him to his office and requested the procession’s cancellation. He expressed disappointment that the police had a change of stance after initially approving their request.

Gbemisola explained that they had decided to shift the procession to a private venue to ensure public peace but were surprised when the Department of State Services (DSS) advised against gathering.

The police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, countered the organizers’ claims, asserting that the procession had taken place successfully. She mentioned that although the organizers didn’t officially apply for approval, the Command provided them with security, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations.

Iringe-Koko emphasized that anyone suggesting the police had stopped the rally was attempting to tarnish the force’s reputation and clarified that the procession was disrupted by rain.
