Sanwo-Olu Appoints New General Manager For LASEPA

Eko Hot Blog reports that Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the appointment of Dr. Babatunde Ajayi as the new General Manager of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA).

The Lagos Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, disclosed the development in a statement on Monday.

Agoro said the appointment is in recognition of Dr. Ajayi’s impressive track record as a renowned medical practitioner and global health consultant.

“The State Government expects the new General Manager to demonstrate a high level of dedication, diligence and selflessness in the discharge of his duties to justify the confidence and trust reposed in him by Mr. Governor,” he said.

LASEPA was established on the 1st of November, 1996 by virtue of the LASEPA Edict No. 9 of 1996 (now Environment Management Protection Law 2017 Part VI)).

The main thrust of the agency is to protect and improve the environment, assist public and private organizations, industries, businesses and non-governmental organizations to achieve compliance by providing environment-friendly solutions to varied environmental challenges.

Before his appointment, the agency’s new GM was the former Special Assistant to the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Abayomi.

Dr. Ajayi, a medical practitioner and seasoned administrator, has been credited with leading several projects and initiatives that improved health outcomes in Lagos State.

The appointment comes amid aggressive actions by LASEPA against establishments polluting the environment.

In recent days, the agency’s officials have sealed various establishments on the orders of the Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab.

Wahab has said there’s no going back in the Lagos government’s ongoing clampdown on environmental offenders.
