The coronation ceremony, which began on Monday, October 30, 2023, will conclude on November 4, 2023, with a grand finale.
According to the organising committee, the coronation will be a culmination of Yoruba customs and traditions, solidifying Oba Oliwo’s role as the revered leader of his people.
In a recent interview with Hon. T.W. Ayo Odeyemi, the chairman of the Aladepekun Coronation Committee, he stated, “Our Kabiyesi received the staff of office from the state government in May 2023 as the Aladepekun of Odo-Egiri kingdom and has gone through the real customs and traditions of the Yoruba culture, which is the ‘odo’ or ‘ipebi’.
“It’s the installation ceremony of the Kabiyesi, and it’s a week-long event with other activities tied to it, like lecture, quiz competition, and medical check-up on the first day. Visitation to Kabiyesi by different families, CDAs, and different groups and prayers on the second day.
“The third day will commence with general sanitation and a novelty football match. Laying of the Aladepekun market on the fourth day. The fifth day, which is on Friday, will start with Jummat prayers, followed by the woro/ibile dance and ikokore/egusi night.”
Another stakeholder, Alhaji Deinde Tuwashe, also gave an insight into what to expect during the coronation ceremony.
He said, “It’s a week-long event. Kings from various kingdoms will be present, likewise chiefs and other dignitaries from within Epe and outside. It is going to be a very interesting event, as culture and traditions take their place.”
The grand finale on Saturday will be a culmination of the week-long celebrations.
The official coronation of HRM Oba Oliwo, Gbadewolu I, the Aladepekun of Odo-Egiri, will take place at the Ansar Ud Deen Primary School in Odo-Egiri.
The organising committee says the coronation will be a spectacle, with the presence of kings from various kingdoms, chiefs, and dignitaries from both within Epe and beyond, all coming together to witness the rich tapestry of Yoruba culture and tradition.
A church Thanksgiving ceremony will be held on Sunday, November 5, 2023, to round off the coronation festivities, emphasizing the harmonious coexistence of cultural and religious aspects in Odo-Egiri.
