Lagos To Use Art AS Healing Therapy

The Lagos State Government has inaugurated a 10-member ‘Art4Life Steering Committee’ to oversee the use of art as a healing therapy in health facilities across the State.
The Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi explained that the committee would drive the ‘Art4life Project, ‘ which is aimed at using art to create a compassionate environment to aid the process of healing for patients.
“The Art4Life project marks a new dimension in how we manage healthcare and well-being of our people in Lagos by bringing arts to contribute and transform the healing process in our health facilities”, Abayomi said.
He added that the ‘Art4Life’ project is in fulfilment of the present administration’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare system in the State,& introduction of art therapy will help improve the mental health of citizens.
The Commissioner stated that several art methods including visual, creative and performing arts such as drawing, painting, sculpture, music, dancing, may be used with patients ranging from young children to the elderly.
He urged members of the Committee to go the extra miles in achieving it’s goals and objectives so that in less than a year, it’s success can be celebrated
