Ikeja Club: From Humble Beginnings To A Stalwart Institution
In a poignant celebration of continuity and leadership, the Ikeja Club recently witnessed the investiture of its 22nd President, Alhaji Musediq Adebayo Adeleke, marking a significant milestone in its illustrious history.
Amidst the traditions and camaraderie that defined the ceremony, the spotlight turned to the club’s journey from humble beginnings to a stalwart institution that stands as a testament to resilience, growth, and unwavering commitment.
Founded on the visionary idea of Alhaji A.T. Animashaun, Late Chief S.O Onasanya, and Late S.A. Otunkoya, the Ikeja Club emerged in 1966 as a response to the need for a serene space for relaxation and socialization after work.

Inspired by experiences abroad, particularly Alhaji A.T. Animashaun’s membership in the Black Table in Blackburn, Lancashire, England, the club’s inception was marked by a vision that would shape its destiny.
The inaugural meeting on July 27, 1966, at Victoria Hotel, Ikeja, became the foundational moment for what is now known as the Ikeja Club.
Described as “a child of circumstance,” the club has grown from its modest origins to become a stalwart institution, navigating the sands of time with poise and purpose.
As the list of past presidents, from Chief A. Akerele in 1967 to the immediate past president, Otunba Ayodeji Randle, illustrates, each tenure has been a chapter in the club’s journey of progress.
Otunba Randle, reflecting on his stewardship, stated that, “My term aimed at setting a solid foundation for the Ikeja Club’s future. I pledge my support to Alhaji Musediq Adebayo Adeleke’s administration, confident that it will build on the groundwork laid for the club’s continued success.”

Alhaji Adeleke, stepping into the role of the 22nd president, inherits not just responsibilities but a rich legacy of unity, resilience, and community service.
