Tragedy Strikes As Newlywed Bride, Bridesmaids, And Others Perish In Niger Auto Crash

Eko Hot Blog reports A joyous occasion turned into a devastating tragedy when a newly wedded bride, along with her five bridesmaids, brother-in-law, and six others lost their lives in a fatal motor accident around the Lukoro area in Edati Local Government Area of Niger State.

The heartbreaking incident unfolded on Friday evening, leaving a community in mourning.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the ill-fated car carrying the recently married bride lost control, attributed to over speeding and wrongful overtaking, ultimately colliding with an oncoming vehicle. The collision proved fatal, claiming the lives of 13 individuals and leaving seven others critically injured.

The second vehicle involved in the accident was a commercial Nissan bus en route from Minna to Ogbomosho, Oyo State.

The Niger State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Tsukwan Kumar, confirmed the tragic incident, providing details of the victims and the circumstances surrounding the crash.

“The crash involved two vehicles, a Toyota Corolla conveying the late bride and others from Mokwa to Bida and a commercial Nissan bus from Minna heading to Ogbomoso,” Kumar stated.

He continued, “Those who died include eight female adults, four male adults, and one male child, while four female adults, one male adult, one male child, and one female child were injured.”

The aftermath of the accident saw the recovery of various personal effects belonging to the victims, including phones, an International passport, a National Identification Number (NIN) slip, handbags, travelling boxes, goods, and other items. These belongings were handed over to the Police Outpost in Wuya.

The bodies of the deceased were identified and handed over to their grieving relatives, while the remaining four victims, yet to be identified, were deposited at the General Hospital in Kutigi, the headquarters of Lavun Local Government Area. The injured survivors are currently receiving medical treatment at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Bida.

The community is left grappling with the profound loss brought about by this tragic accident, marking what was meant to be a celebration of love with profound sorrow.
