13 Children Abducted In Kaduna Still In Captivity 23 Days After Bandit Attack

Eko Hot Blog reports thirteen children abducted by suspected bandits in the Katari area of Kaduna on January 6, 2024, have spent 23 days in captivity, as reported by the victims’ family.

The bandits, during the attack, killed a 53-year-old baker, Mr. Tijani Amedu, and abducted his 13 relatives, mainly children, who were traveling with him. The family revealed that negotiations with the kidnappers initially started at N200 million but have been reduced to N50 million.

Rasaq, the brother of the deceased, shared details of the incident, stating, “They came to visit for the Christmas and New Year holidays. But they got attacked by bandits when they were going back to Kaduna, using two buses. The bandits took all of them.” Unfortunately, Rasaq’s elder brother, Tijani Amedu, lost his life during the attack.

Zinab, the wife of the deceased, confirmed her husband’s death and pleaded for help, stating, “They killed my husband and they went away with 13 children. We have 13 of our children with them.” The family is now seeking both prayers and assistance from anyone who can help.

The kidnappers, after negotiations, initially demanded N200 million but later reduced the ransom to N50 million. The children have reportedly been in contact with the family from their captivity.

While the family seeks help and the safe release of the abducted children, the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansur Hassan, stated that the command will investigate the matter.

He assured that they would provide updates after the investigation.
